Elements of Typography

​

1. Tabulate the function of each elements such as;

   • Kerning

   • Tracking

   • Leading

   • Alignment

   • Ligatures

   • Hyphenation

   • Rag

   • Widows and Orphans

kerning - it is the space between two letters if it's too far from each other it will be awkward to read

 

tracking - the adjustment of space throughout the whole word

 

leading - the distance between the upper sentence and the lower sentence that is measured vertically 

 

alignment -the position and arrangements of sentence on a page

 

ligatures - the merge of two letters that have close position

 

hyphenation - to break two words with a (-) sign

 

rag - it is the  imbalance vertical margin of a block of type

​

widows and orphans - orphan is a single word while widow is a sign that is left when words have hyphenation
